Yes, We Need Saving

It may not be the most popular thought, but humanity needs saving!

Though life is great, for the most part, there is no way we can turn a blind eye to the evil, corruption, disruption, and injustice that is going on in not only in America, but throughout the whole world.

Why do you think we enjoy, respond to, and identify with stories and plots with heroes? Not only can we recognize the shortcomings within ourselves, but within all of us as a human race. Who can save us from ourselves? Who can save us as a whole? The answer for both is the same: Jesus.

Now, I know not everybody believes in the same Savior, but I would like to explore the idea of needing some kind of salvation in general and then point you to the truth.

Who needs to be saved?

Simply put; everyone. There is always some harmful behavior, mindset, or attitude that is at work inside the heart of every human being. You do not need to be born into a certain circumstance in order to experience and/or partake in some type of destructive behavior. You can be a great personby your own standardshowever, you will find that there is always some area in your life where you fall short. The scripture says that all fall short of the glory of God in Romans 3:23. It is important that we, as humans, find out what the standard of life is in order to know if we are participating in a lifestyle that will ultimately harm us. Absolutely no one is excluded from going through this process of discovering how to be a better person. But who says what a better person is? If we all have our own standards of what is acceptable and moral, which are ever changing, we are going down a path to nowhere. We need to draw from one truth and figure out what destructive patterns we need to be delivered from.

What do we need to be saved from?

The Bible defines that “destructive behavior” I was talking about as sin. Sin in the Greek means to miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honor or to do or go wrong. Expounding, to wander from the law of God or to violate it. Understanding this definition, we can start to unravel and find our symptoms of sinful behavior and attitudes. These include sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these, according to Galatians (5:19-21). Do you find yourself engaging with these types of things even on a small scale? If you do, these are ultimately signs of a sinful heart condition.

Why do we need to be saved?

This may be great information, but one may ask, “Why does it matter whether I live a sinful life or not? Who said that these are behaviors I need to be saved from?” To begin answering this question, let’s look back at the elephant in the room that I mentioned before. This world has become increasingly evil, corrupted, destructive, and unjust at the very least. Now, I’m not going to start naming specific examples because I trust that you have an idea of what I’m talking about, but we can see how a sin-ridden world is dysfunctional at best and deadly at worst. Despite many people’s best efforts throughout history, we continue to spiral down this dangerous path. Sin is a disease that, if you remain unaware to the fact that you need to be delivered from it, will consume you without you even realizing! By not addressing the fact that we need to be saved, we are subconsciously giving sin permission to run rampant in our lives. The scripture says “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil,” (1 John‬ ‭3:8‬) which informs us that there is an enemy behind the sin we partake of. And at the end of the day, you will either belong to him or be saved from him and belong to Jesus. There’s no other way.

How does Jesus save?

Scripture tells us in Luke 19:10

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (ESV)

and this shows us that it was Jesus' whole mission to save us from sin. Sin is so serious that it can only be washed away by the death to it and resurrection in Christ. Jesus took all of our sin upon Himself though He did not sin, died the death we deserved, but rose again to signify the deliverance from sin we can experience if we simply believe and follow Him! (Romans 6:23, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 3:18, etc). The Bible also tells us

"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit" (ESV)

in Titus 3:5. It was Christ's unconditional, beautiful love that saved us from our sin, not anything we did! He deserves our devotion to Him for saving us just because He loves us.

When should we receive salvation?

Well, this is up to you... But, today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Don't wait too long!
